Saving Web Recipes

One of Bite Genie's most powerful features is the ability to save recipes directly from the web. Whether you find a delicious recipe on a food blog, cooking website, or social media, you can easily capture it and add it to your personal library.

But Bite Genie goes far beyond simple recipe bookmarking. While other apps just store what you give them, our intelligent system automatically extracts and standardizes recipe information, cleans up formatting inconsistencies, and organizes everything with smart tags. No more dealing with cluttered web pages, intrusive ads, or broken links when you're ready to cook.

How to Save a Web Recipe

1. Share from browser

Save recipes instantly using your device's built-in share function:

  • Navigate to any recipe page in your browser
  • Click the share button in your browser
  • Find and select the Bite Genie app from the share options
  • Bite Genie will automatically save the recipe (this might take a moment)
  • The recipe will appear in your library, ready to use

2. Manual paste method

You can also add recipes directly within the app:

  • Open the Bite Genie app
  • Click the central add button at the bottom of the screen
  • In the popup that appears, scroll to the bottom
  • Paste the recipe URL into the link field
  • Tap to save and Bite Genie will extract the recipe details
  • Review the imported recipe in your library

What Gets Saved

When you save a web recipe, Bite Genie automatically extracts this information, if available:

  • Recipe title and description
  • Any images or photos that accompany the recipe
  • Complete ingredient list with measurements
  • Step-by-step cooking instructions, including step photos
  • Cooking time
  • Original source URL for reference
  • Any cooking tips or notes included
  • Serving size and nutrition information
  • Public ratings of the recipe
  • Category, cuisine or keywords associated with the recipe

Tips for Better Recipe Saving

  • Check that all ingredients and steps were captured correctly
  • Add your own categories, cuisines, or tags to organize your saved recipes
  • Review the recipe format to ensure it's cooking-friendly

Troubleshooting

If a recipe doesn't save properly:

  • Make sure you're on the actual recipe page, not just a blog post
  • Use the manual entry method as a backup
  • Contact support. We're constantly working to add support for more websites.
